Tenino Water Damage

Water intrusion can be a very destructive force. Evergreen Restoration’s staff of IICRC trained technicians is suited for any Water Loss situations. When a water loss has occurred it is important to remember that the longer that water stands, the more difficult it becomes to remove and the more likely it is to become contaminated and/or germinate mold.

When Evergreen Restoration, is called to your home or structure in Tenino our IICRC Certified Technicians will do the following procedures EVERY TIME:

1. Take photo of the front of the home or structure and physical address.

2. Introduction of the crew to the Tenino homeowner/property manager.

3. Speak with the Tenino homeowner/property manager about the damage and find the point of origin.

4. Start with the point of origin and inspect all affected areas of the home for moisture.

5. Take Photo’s of all affected areas, including documenting the condition of all the personal belongings in the affected areas.

6. Walk through the home or structure with the Tenino homeowner/property manager to explain the documented damage and the drying process.

7. All authorizations and releases signed and dated.

8. Begin extracting highly saturated areas from the water damage.

9. Remove any baseboards and doors to promote better airflow.

10. Remove all affected carpet and padding and any affected insulation in the crawl space.

11. Take samples of the damage areas for lead and asbestos and have the samples tested.

12. Remove all affected drywall from the Water Damage.

13. Set up equipment to begin the drying process.

14. Take photos of the water damaged areas with equipment operating and sheetrock removed.

15. Send documents to insurance company.

 

Sources of Water Damage
Water may enter a building by a number of routes. Water may come from external of internal sources. The water may be relatively clean or contain some degree of contamination.
 
Damage from wind storms or other cause may allow rain water to enter through the roofIce dams on sloped roofs can force water to travel under roofing material and into the building. 
 
Poor construction methods, faulty plumbing or water pipes that freeze and burst can result in water where it was never intended to be. The water may come from lines carrying potable (safe for drinking) water or the source could be a backed-up sewer lineFaulty appliances or damaged water beds may also be the cause of water damage. Flooding due to rising rivers or storm surge is another source.
 
The cause may due to accident, negligence or even intentional vandalism. A water loss is often associated with a fire loss due to the water used to control the fire.
 
High water table and capillary action may result in ground water rising into a building through the foundation. Hydrostatic pressure (the force of water in the ground outside a building) can push the water into a concrete foundation. From there water can find its way to other parts of the structure.

Tenino was officially incorporated on July 24, 1906, though it existed as a rural community since the mid-19th century. Initially, American settlers were attracted to the open prairies created and maintained by local natives through controlled burns to cultivate camas root, a staple food source. Records indicate the initial settlers' community centered on the prairie approximately 1/2 mile south of the present town. Early residents named their first post office and school "Coal Bank", in the 1860s, a reference to a nearby coal outcropping.[3] When the Northern Pacific Railway arrived in 1872 they adopted Tenino as the name of the new station.[4] It also appears informally as "T-9-O", which reflects the way it's pronounced.

In the late 19th century a number of sandstone quarrying companies began shipping building stone, used in many regional buildings outside of Tenino, including the Old Capitol Building and the old Thurston County Courthouse in Olympia, the Mason County Courthouse in Shelton, Washington, the First Congregational Church, develpoed by Cameron Stone, in Tacoma, Washington, Denny Hall and the Theodore Jacobson Observatory at the University of Washington, Seattle, the Pittock Mansion and the Pioneer Courthouse in Portland, Oregon and several post office buildings, including at The Dalles, Oregon. The US Government also used stone from these quarries to construct jetties at Westport, Washington and elsewhere. The quarries declined in the early 20th century when many builders switched to concrete.
